How can Web 2.0 technologies be used to improve online promotion results?
Written by Devon Kunkel on Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Blogging, Podcasts, Tagging, RSS and Wikis are different terms that you have likely encountered while trying to understand Web 2.0. So what is Web 2.0? It’s a term that describes changing internet design and usage trends. Web 2.0 aims to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web.

So how can Web 2.0 benefit your online promotion? To begin with, Web 2.0 can help drive traffic to your online promotion. Today’s online users contribute content to an assortment of web properties such as social networks, forums and personal blogs. Many also have accounts at Digg or StumbleUpon, while others use Netvibes or iGoogle as a personal portal. By incorporating Web 2.0 tools into your online promotion, you can make it easy for users to “promote your promotion” via these web properties.

Successfully planting your online promotion on these web properties not only encourages viral pass-along but also helps in terms of search. If you generate enough buzz, many popular search engines will recognize this and start bumping up your rankings. Gaining ground in search engines in turn expands your reach and builds more paths to your promotion. Remember, everything is connected and every little bit helps.

  1. Good ideas. I’ve been trying to understand what people mean when they talk about Web 2.0, but this makes sense. Now just to capitalize on it.
